Video work of sardines overlaid on one another till they overtake the screen to disappear as quickly as they once emerged in an endless loop. There is a tragic, representational beauty to the sardines as they fill the screen and take their place, just like the ones that came before, all to disappear at the end. In a constant loop. These fish take the place of humans, more specifically citizens entrenched in neoliberal regimes where the only “choice” isn’t one at all.

 

Of the apparent choices, you can exist to be a product or a consumer. But it is difficult to decide when it is inevitable that you are simultaneously both. The sardines swim in their prescribed places.We fill our prescribed roles, complicit in the system in which robs us. The human experience has become a tragic one despite the appearance of liberty and freedoms that have been redirected to one’s purchasing power.
